And if you aren’t really all that sure what a Ductless HVAC System (or mini-split system) is, well, you’ve also come to the right place too! Sit back and let UCS Heating & Air Conditioning explain the ins and outs of ductless air conditioners and heat pumps. We believe in educating all our clients on the many aspects of residential and commercial HVAC before they make any big decisions for their home.
How Does a Ductless Mini-Split Work?
A ductless AC system is very similar to a central air conditioner system in that they both consist of a condenser and an evaporator or air handler. The condenser unit sits outside the home, and the air handler sits on the inside of the home. The coolant passes between the two units, carrying the indoor-heat to the outdoor condenser unit.
How does it differ from a central air conditioner unit then? Central air units rely on extensive ductwork to send the air through your home. The ductless system, much like the name suggests, does not require such ductwork. A ductless split system relies on a conduit, usually a slim cable, to transfer the air.
Are you curious about mini-split heat pumps, but you are worried if your existing ductwork would interfere with the installation process? Don’t worry! While mini-split heat pump installations are great for new homes, your old home can also be retrofitted to accommodate a ductless system.

Mini-Split HVAC System for Home Additions
Are you in the process of designing a home addition or a detached workshop for your existing Riverside home? If you were looking to keep that room at a comfortable temperature for guests, you probably want it air-conditioned. After all, all the existing rooms in your house have AC, don’t they?
It can be difficult, however, to connect this new room to your home’s existing ductwork. Trying to connect a newly built addition to your home’s ductwork will make for a lot of construction mess. And if your workshop isn’t attached to your home? Forget about it!
Why not install a mini split air conditioner in that new addition? You won’t have to worry about connecting any ductwork, and whoever is in that room will have total control over their own comfort!
Energy Efficiency With Ductless Mini-Split Units
Ductless air conditioning systems are the energy-efficient approach to home heating. With ductwork-reliant forced air systems, much of the heat can be lost as air travels through ductwork. With a ductless system, there are no ducts to worry about! Even the best central air system doesn’t hold a candle to the energy efficiency of today’s ductless systems.
